Commanders end Ravens’ NFL preseason winning streak

Joey Slye made a 49-yard field goal with 10 seconds to play to lift the Washington Commanders to a 29-28 victory over Baltimore on Monday night to end the Ravens’ 24-game NFL preseason winning streak.

Baltimore’s previous preseason loss had come on Sept. 3, 2015. The Ravens’ preseason winning streak is the longest in NFL history.

Three quarterbacks threw two touchdown passes apiece – the Ravens’ Josh Johnson and Anthony Brown and the Commanders’ Sam Howell, who had Washington in front 17-14 when he took a seat at halftime.

It was third-team QB Jake Fromm who guided the Commanders’ offense through the fourth-quarter rally. A nine-play, 59-yard touchdown drive pulled Washington within two with 4:08 left, but the Ravens turned back the 2-point conversion attempt. When the Commanders regained possession with 2:54 to play, they moved 60 yards in 14 plays to set up Frye’s winning kick.

Baltimore and Washington had 16 players from Alabama high schools and college on their rosters for Monday night’s game at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland:

· Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen (Alabama) did not play.

· Ravens cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis (St. Paul’s Episcopal, Alabama) did not play.

· Angelo Blackson (Auburn) started at defensive tackle for the Ravens. Blackson made two tackles.

· Ravens guard Tykeem Doss (Aliceville) did not record any stats.

· Commanders running back Derrick Gore (Alabama) ran for 23 yards on three carries.

· Ravens cornerback Tae Hayes (Decatur) made four tackles, recorded one tackle for loss and intercepted a pass. Hayes picked off a pass by Washington quarterback Jacoby Brissett at the Baltimore 17-yard line with 10:35 to play. Hayes practiced with the Ravens for the first time one week ago after being claimed off waivers following his release by the Detroit Lions.

· Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Alabama) did not play. Humphrey had foot surgery last week.

· Ravens guard Tashawn Manning (Auburn) did not record any stats.

· Commanders defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis (Alabama) did not play.

· Jeremiah Moon (Hoover) started at outside linebacker for the Ravens. Moon made four tackles, recorded one sack and registered two quarterback hits. Moon also made a tackle on special teams.

· Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne (Shades Valley, Alabama) did not play.

· Ravens nose tackle Michael Pierce (Daphne, Samford) did not play.

· Jeremy Reaves (South Alabama) started at safety for the Commanders. Reaves made one tackle.

· Brian Robinson Jr. (Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, Alabama) started at running back for the Commanders. Robinson ran for 21 yards on five carries and caught four passes for 17 yards.

· Ravens outside linebacker Kelle Sanders (UAB) made one tackle.

· Commanders offensive tackle Trent Scott (Lee-Huntsville) did not record any stats.

The Baltimore-Washington game concluded the second week of the NFL’s preseason schedule. The final week begins on Thursday night.

The Commanders will conclude their preseason when the Cincinnati Bengals visit at 5:05 p.m. CDT Saturday. The Ravens wrap up their preseason schedule by visiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 6 p.m. Saturday.
