Commanders call up former Alabama running back
Four players from Alabama high schools and colleges were elevated from practice squads to active status for Sunday NFL games by their teams on Saturday, and another player with Alabama football roots was signed to an NFL active roster.
For each game, an NFL team can elevate two players from its practice squad to active status, making them eligible to play. After the game, the players can return to the practice squad without having to go through the waiver process.

· CALVIN RIDLEY FACING FALCONS FOR FIRST TIME ON SUNDAY
The players from Alabama high schools and colleges who became eligible to play through Saturday transactions included:
· Tennessee Titans defensive back Shyheim Carter (Alabama) was elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Carter has been in the NFL since 2020 without appearing in an NFL regular-season game.
· Los Angeles Chargers safety AJ Finley (St. Paul’s Episcopal) was signed from the practice squad for the active roster. Finley made the Chargers’ regular-season roster coming out of the preseason. But after Finley did not play in Los Angeles’ first two games, the Chargers waived him on Sept. 23, then re-signed him for the practice squad on Tuesday. Finley returned to the 53-player active roster on Saturday as defensive back J.T. Woods left it for reserve/non-football illness. Finley’s return to the roster makes him eligible for his NFL debut on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.
· Washington Commanders running back Derrick Gore (Alabama) was elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Gore entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2019 from Louisiana-Monroe. He played in 11 games with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021, when he ran for 256 yards and two touchdowns on 51 carries and caught eight passes for 105 yards. The Commanders called up Gore with rookie running back Chris Rodriguez Jr. sidelined on Sunday by illness.
· Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Keenan Isaac (Midfield, Alabama State) was elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. An undrafted rookie, Isaac would make his NFL debut if he gets on the field against the Saints. The Bucs elevated Isaac with their pair of former Auburn cornerbacks ailing. Jamel Dean will miss Sunday’s game with neck and shoulder injuries, and Carlton Davis, who has missed the previous two games with a toe injury, is considered questionable to play in the NFC South contest.
· Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Malik Reed (Dothan) was elevated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Released at the end of the preseason by the Miami Dolphins, Reed joined the Raiders’ practice squad on Wednesday. A four-year veteran, Reed has played in 59 NFL games, including 36 starts.
