Colonels fall, but new stadium opening is highlight for Woodlawn

Woodlawn fans didn’t have a lot to cheer about on the scoreboard as the Colonels fell 38-18 to visiting Central-Tuscaloosa on Thursday night, but outside the white lines it was a big night at the storied Birmingham school.

Thursday was opening night for a new on-campus football stadium with a seating capacity of 2,800 features new synthetic turf with alternating strips of light and dark green every 5 yards, a new field house with coaches’ offices, a cutting-edge film room and a 4,000-square foot weight room. The field house also includes a training room with a full-size whirlpool and a laundry room.

The stadium includes a 1,900-square foot area for visiting teams, home and visitor side concession stands and men’s and women’s restrooms covering 2,700-square feet.
