College umpire suspended indefinitely after worst strike-three call you’ll ever see
The Southland Conference announced Saturday that the home plate umpire calling the New Orleans-Mississippi Valley State baseball game on Friday had been suspended indefinitely after what appears to be an egregious strike-three call.
“After a thorough review of the New Orleans and Mississippi Valley State baseball contest on March 10, 2023, the Southland Conference confirmed the home plate umpire’s conduct and actions were deemed detrimental to the Conference and in violation of Section 3 Character and Conduct of the CCA Mechanics Manual for Baseball,” the conference said in a statement.
With two outs in the top of the ninth inning, umpire Reggie Drummer called a questionable strike-two call against Mississippi Valley’s Davon Mims. Mims showed his displeasure.
The 1-2 pitch that came next wound up in the opposite batter’s box when Drummer rang up Mims, who had to be held back by UNO catcher Jorge Tejada.
