College Football Week 7 picks: Once again, Alabama, Georgia seem headed for SEC title game
It’s the middle of October and the two best teams in the SEC are Georgia and Alabama. Yes, that’s still true in 2023 just as it was at this point in the season each of the past five years.
Georgia’s position was expected. Despite losing 10 players to the NFL Draft, the Bulldogs were projected to be the class of the SEC East. While the schedule has been embarrassingly weak, Georgia is starting to look like a team that could win a third-straight national championship.
Alabama looked like anything but a contender in back-to-back bad efforts against Texas and South Florida. But the Tide is now the only other team besides Georgia that is undefeated in SEC play.
Three teams in the SEC West are already virtually eliminated from championship contention (Auburn, Arkansas and Mississippi State). Ole Miss and Texas A&M have already lost to Alabama. That leaves LSU as the only serious obstacle between Alabama and the SEC Championship Game.
There are still a lot of games left to play, but at this point, Georgia and Alabama are again the strength of the SEC.
