College Football Week 5 upset predictions and odds: South Carolina to beat No. 21 Tennesse (+360 or better)

Tennessee has faced an extremely easy schedule through four weeks, with wins over Virginia, Austin Peay, and UTSA. The Volunteers’ sole matchup with a quality opponent resulted in a 29-16 loss to Florida.

The Vols’ defense allowed Graham Mertz to complete 79% of his attempts for 166 yards and a score, and Gator ball carriers picked up 183 yards and three scores. Tennessee will be tasked with slowing down a South Carolina offense that’s superior to Florida’s, led by Spencer Rattler.

The Gamecocks nearly upset No. 1 Georgia at Sanford Stadium in Week 3, carrying a 14-3 lead into halftime, before the Bulldogs came back.

South Carolina rebounded well in Week 4 with a 37-30 win vs. Mississippi State. Rattler threw three touchdowns, and Gamecocks’ rushers tallied 144 yards and four scores.

Expect South Carolina’s rushing attack to have another outstanding game, resulting in a tightly contested matchup at Neyland Stadium.

College Football Week 5 upset predictions and odds: Colorado to beat No. 8 USC (+900 or better)

We’ve already seen Deion Sanders and Colorado pull an improbable upset, as the Buffaloes were +800 in Week 1 vs. TCU and got the job done.

Colorado got stomped by Oregon last week due to the Ducks’ strong defense, but that won’t be an issue against USC. The Trojans have yet to play a worthwhile opponent and allow 20 points per game.

Sub-.500 Arizona State nearly upset USC last Saturday because the Trojans’ defense struggled against a Sun Devils’ offense that averaged 13 points per game. Deion will surely have his team motivated after an embarrassing loss, and home-field advantage will be monumental for the Buffs.

The game kicks off at 10 a.m. local time in Boulder, which is 9 a.m. in Los Angeles. Both teams may feel the impact of a very early start, but Colorado has a slight edge.

College Football Week 5 upset predictions and odds: No. 24 Kansas to beat No. 3 Texas (+575 or better)

Lance Leipold has done a marvelous job building Kansas’ football program from a 2-10 record in 2021 to 6-7 in 2022, and now the Jayhawks are undefeated with a legitimate chance to knockoff Texas.

The Jayhawks have an experienced QB in Jalon Daniels, but the strength of the offense is the rushing attack. Kansas’ 217 yards per game are the second-most in the Big 12, and Devin Neal leads with 394 yards and five touchdowns.

Texas was nearly upset in Week 3 vs. Wyoming when the Cowboys and Longhorns were tied 10-10 in the fourth quarter. Texas opened things up in the final frame and won convincingly, but the blueprint for Wyoming’s early success was a relentless performance from its RBs.

The Cowboys gained 155 yards on the ground and had 10 more rushes than throws. If the Jayhawks control the line of scrimmage and limit Texas’ offensive possessions, we could see an upset in Austin.
