College Football best bets and odds: No. 2 Ohio State (+3.5) vs. No. 3 Michigan
The hatred between Ohio State and Michigan is as great as any rivalry in sports. The stakes in this year’s matchup are higher than ever, with the loser facing long odds to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.
From 2012 to 2019, the Buckeyes won all eight matchups with the Wolverines. But Jim Harbaugh and Michigan have struck back convincingly in the last two seasons, winning both matchups by an average of 18 points.
The Wolverines finally looked human last week in a 31-24 victory over Maryland, sandwiched between Michigan’s two biggest games of the year. J.J. McCarthy had his worst performance of the season, completing 52% of his passes for 141 yards and an interception.
TreVeyon Henderson’s 146 rushing yards and two touchdowns led the Buckeyes to a 37-3 beatdown of Minnesota. Ohio State’s defense is hitting its stride at the perfect time, surrendering just six total points in the past two matchups.
After Michigan rushed for an eye-popping 252 yards on Ohio State in 2022, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day made it a point to ensure his team is ready to play with more physicality. The teams seem evenly matched this time around, leading us to take the Buckeyes +3.5 in a matchup that could go either way.
College Football best bets and odds: No. 15 Oregon State vs. No. 6 Oregon (-13.5)
A date with Washington in the Pac-12 Championship awaits Oregon if the Ducks beat the Beavers. The dismantling of the conference adds a layer of intrigue to the Friday night clash, with Oregon joining the Big Ten in 2024 while Oregon State has yet to join a new conference.
The rivalry formerly known as the Civil War began in 1894, and the Ducks lead the all-time series 67-49-10. But the Beavers have evened the record as of late, winning two of the last three meetings. It’s unclear when the teams will next play, raising the stakes of this year’s Civil War.
The Ducks only trip up came in a three-point loss to Washington in Week 7, as nine of Oregon’s 10 wins have come by at least two possessions. Bo Nix nearly declared for the NFL Draft last offseason but instead opted to return to Eugene, and the move is paying off greatly, as Nix’s 3,539 yards and 35 touchdowns have made him a favorite to win the Heisman.
Oregon State is 8-3 and each defeat stemmed from the Beaver’s inability to close out games in the fourth quarter. OSU lost to Washington State, Arizona, and Washington by a field goal or less.
Look for the Ducks to strengthen its College Football Playoff odds with a dominant win at Autzen Stadium. Oregon plays at an incredibly high level on both sides of the ball, and the Beavers will struggle to keep up with Nix and Co.
College Football best bets and odds: Texas A&M vs. No. 14 LSU (-11.5)
Jayden Daniels was the Heisman frontrunner in the preseason, and after LSU fell short in two of its opening five games, his odds took a hit. The California native has put up video game numbers in recent weeks, catapulting him back to the top of the Heisman odds board.
Daniels has 5,591 total yards, 46 total touchdowns, and only four interceptions. If the Tigers didn’t have a porous defense that allows 27 points per game, LSU would be in CFP contention.
While LSU vs. Texas A&M doesn’t hold any postseason ramifications, it’s one of Daniels’ final opportunities to make his case to become the next Heisman Trophy winner. We’re taking LSU against the spread vs. an Aggies team that fired head coach Jimbo Fisher last week following a 51-10 squashing of Mississippi State.
