Alabama vs. Michigan odds: Predictions and betting picks for the Rose Bowl

J.J. McCarthy under 185.5 passing yards (-114 or better)

The Wolverines’ offense relies greatly on its ball-carriers, rushing 493 times this season and attempting 315 passes. Michigan stuck to the script in its biggest games of the year and will surely do the same against the Crimson Tide.

Against Penn State, McCarthy threw the ball eight times for 60 yards in the 24-15 triumph.

J.J. put up monster numbers in some games early in the year but failed to eclipse 150 yards in the previous four games. Michigan excels at establishing the run and picking the most opportune times to attempt a strike downfield.

Alabama’s pass-rushers could cause problems for McCarthy, as the Crimson Tide racked up the ninth-most sacks in the nation. SEC Defensive Player of the Year Dallas Turner led the team with nine sacks.

Jalen Milroe under 34.5 rushing yards (-115 or better)

Jalen Milroe took some time to develop into a high-level passer, resulting in the Katy, Texas native using his legs often in the first half of the season. Milroe has been far more consistent as a thrower in the back half of the schedule, which should carry over into the Rose Bowl.

The 21-year-old’s confidence has grown game-by-game, and he’s boasted a 10/1 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the previous five matchups. If Milroe can stay in the pocket and drive the offense down the field through the air, there will be less of a need for him to make plays on the ground.

Michigan’s defense is suffocating and likely won’t give Milroe many opportunities to break off chunk rushing plays. Big Blue ranks second in FBS against the pass and surrenders the sixth-fewest rushing yards per game.

Jermaine Burton anytime touchdown scorer (+200 or better)

The Georgia transfer’s yardage totals haven’t been consistent in recent games. Against Chattanooga and Auburn, Jermaine Burton had 212 receiving yards, and in the LSU and Georgia games, he had 57 yards.

Regardless of Burton’s production, he has constantly been Milroe’s go-to target in the red zone. Jermaine leads the Crimson Tide with eight receiving touchdowns and has scored in four of the last five games.

Burton is also a threat to reel in a deep pass on any given play, though the Tide’s offense has progressed to a point where it doesn’t live and die on home run plays.
