Jayden Daniels is the odds favorite to become the second LSU quarterback since 2019 to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in New York.

Heisman Trophy betting odds: Jayden Daniels (-1200 or better)

Based on Heisman odds markets, Bo Nix would’ve locked up the award had Oregon defeated Washington in the Pac-12 Championship. Sportsbooks favored Nix to win the Heisman before kickoff but following the loss, Daniels and Michael Penix surpassed Bo.

The Heisman odds have roller-coastered in recent weeks, with Daniels and Nix being heavy favorites at various times. But the Ducks’ failure to win the Pac-12 title has removed Nix from being a serious contender to become the next Heisman winner, at least from an odds standpoint.

The amount of stock oddsmakers put into the Pac-12 Championship is ridiculous. Unless Nix posted video-game numbers in a triumphant victory, Daniels should’ve been the Heisman favorite no matter who won the Pac-12.

Heisman Trophy betting odds: Can Jayden Daniels win despite LSU’s three-loss season?

The Heisman Trophy is meant to go to the most outstanding player in college football. Nowhere in the criteria is team success listed, yet Daniels’ Heisman odds were influenced greatly by the Pac-12 Championship.

The only knock on Jayden is LSU’s 9-3 record and failure to make the SEC Championship. However, the 22-year-old shouldn’t shoulder the blame for the Tigers’ shortcomings.

Two of LSU’s losses came against teams ranked in the top 10, and the third setback was vs. No. 20 Ole Miss. The Tigers allowed over 40 points in each defeat, and Daniels had to up his game throughout the season to overcome LSU’s dreadful defense.

Jayden also performed well in LSU’s defeats, averaging 326 passing yards and 108 rushing yards and accounting for nine touchdowns while throwing two interceptions.

Daniels wouldn’t be the first quarterback to hoist the Heisman Trophy despite his team going 9-3. Tim Tebow, Robert Griffin III, and Lamar Jackson earned the award in recent years and fell short in three regular-season games.

Daniels’ remarkable abilities as a passer and rusher make him the most deserving player to win the Heisman. The California native played in one fewer game and trails Penix and Nix by approximately 400 passing yards and is tied with Bo for the most throwing touchdowns in the nation.

No quarterback in FBS topped Jayden’s 1,134 rushing yards, and Boston College’s Thomas Castellanos had the second-most with nearly 200 fewer yards.
