Collectors get ready: There’s a new series of toys coming to McDonald’s Happy Meals

McDonald’s is launching a series of new Happy Meal toys.

On July 1, the fast food chain will launch the Lil McDonald’s Happy Meal collection. The collection will come complete with 21 miniature toys featuring a McDonald’s restaurant theme, including tiny french fries and burgers, to miniature replicas of the restaurant.

“As a parent, there’s something magical about watching your child’s imagination come to life with these tiny toys,” said Anna Engel, director of marketing, brand, content and culture for McDonald’s USA, in a press release. “That’s what makes Lil McDonald’s so special. It brings back my own childhood memories of playing McDonald’s and now I get to create new ones with my kids.”

The news about the Happy Meal toys comes on the heels of an announcement that Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s have ended their partnership to sell Krispy Kreme’s doughnuts in McDonald’s locations.

In a press release about the decision, Krispy Kreme explained that while they were initially excited to collaborate with McDonald’s, the business model ultimately wasn’t profitable for the doughnut chain.

“Our two companies partnered very closely, each supporting execution, marketing, and training, delivering a great consumer experience in approximately 2,400 McDonald’s restaurants,” Josh Charlesworth, the CEO of Krispy Kreme, said in the press release. “Ultimately, efforts to bring our costs in line with unit demand were unsuccessful, making the partnership unsustainable for us.”
