Coldest air of the fall headed for Alabama next week
The coldest air of fall 2023 is expected to arrive in Alabama next week.
The National Weather Service said two cold fronts will usher in the chilly air starting on Monday, but unfortunately there won’t be much rain to go along with them.
The weather service said a strong cold front will push into Alabama on Monday, and a secondary front will reinforce it on Tuesday.
Some light rain showers will be possible from Monday into Tuesday as the fronts move in, but forecasters are not expecting more than a few hundredths of an inch to fall, which won’t put a dent in Alabama’s ongoing drought.
Colder air will filter in behind the fronts. The colder air will first be noticed on Monday in north Alabama and for more of the state on Tuesday, which is also Halloween. Only south Alabama will stay in the 70s.

Lows in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will drop into the 30s in north and north-central Alabama and the 40s in south Alabama. Here are Tuesday night’s forecast lows:
Wednesday will be a chilly day compared with recent temperatures, with highs only reaching the 50s in north and central Alabama and the low 60s in south Alabama.

And Wednesday night into Thursday morning could be the coldest next week, and lows could fall into the low 30s (maybe even some 20s) in north Alabama, with 30s and 40s expected in the rest of the state (that forecast is at the top of this post).
The weather service said freeze or frost watches or warnings could be in the cards for Wednesday night into Thursday morning if that forecast holds.
