Cold coming: Freezing temperatures possible next week

Winter isn’t quite ready to call it quits.

A few chilly nights are in store for Alabama in the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

Some areas in the state will get a taste of the colder weather tonight in the wake of a front that was bringing rain and storms to parts of Alabama on Friday.

Lows tonight are expected to range from the mid-30s in north and north-central Alabama to the 40s in south-central and south Alabama. Coastal areas are expected to stay in the 50s.

Here are tonight’s forecast lows:

It will be a chilly night for Alabama tonight, with more cold expected on Monday and Tuesday nights.

There will be a warmup of sorts on Saturday into Sunday, but then another cold front is expected to approach the state. That front could bring severe weather to Alabama on Sunday.

Calmer and much cooler weather is expected following the front on Monday and Tuesday.

High temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s both days, but the chill will really be felt Monday and Tuesday nights.

The weather service is forecasting it to be cold enough that freezing temperatures and frost will be possible for the northern part of the state both nights.

Low temperatures on Monday night into Tuesday morning could fall below freezing in north and north central Alabama, with upper 30s and low 40s expected for the rest of the state.

Here are the forecast lows for Monday night into Tuesday morning:

Monday night lows

Some areas in Alabama could fall to near or even below freezing on Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Tuesday night could be the colder of the two, the weather service said, with temperatures falling into the upper 20s in north Alabama and mid-30s possible down into south Alabama. (Tuesday night’s forecast low temperatures are at the top of this post.)

Temperatures are expected to moderate after Tuesday, and warmer weather is expected to round out next week.
