Coffee and olive oil? What you need to know about Starbuck’s new Oleato drinks

Starbucks founder Howard Schultz started a new morning routine while traveling in Italy last year.

During his trip, he was introduced to the Mediterranean custom of eating a spoonful of olive oil each day. Soon, he started taking a spoonful of Partanna extra virgin olive oil in addition to his coffee as part of his morning routine. That’s when he had the idea to tie the two together.

Now, the fusion of olive oil and coffee is available at Starbucks stores.

The new line, called Oleato, launched this week at all stores across the United States and Canada.

“I was absolutely stunned at the unique flavor and texture created when the Partanna extra virgin olive oil was infused into Starbucks coffee,” Schultz said in a press release. “In both hot and cold coffee beverages, what it produced was an unexpected, velvety, buttery flavor that enhanced the coffee and lingers beautifully on the palate.

Here’s what’s on the menu: You can get an oat milk latte infused with extra virgin olive oil or a toffee nut milk oat latte topped with vanilla sweet cream infused with extra virgin olive oil.

Customers can also customize iced beverages of their choice with Oleato Golden Foam, a serving of vanilla sweet cream infused with a spoonful of olive oil.
