Code Orange alert for Birmingham metro on Saturday
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management has issued a Code Orange air quality alert for the Birmingham area for Saturday.
Ground-level ozone concentrations are expected to be elevated in Jefferson and Shelby counties and could affect those with respiratory conditions or children. The general public is not expected to be affected.
Forecasters with Airnow.gov said high temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 90s on Saturday, and winds are expected to be very light, which could allow ozone to build up in the metro area.
