Code Orange alert for Birmingham metro for Friday
There will be another Code Orange air quality alert in place on Friday for Jefferson and Shelby counties.
Friday will mark the third straight day with elevated ozone levels for the Birmingham metro area.
The ground-level concentrations of ozone in the air could cause some issues for sensitive groups such as children or those with asthma or other respiratory conditions, according to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
The rest of the general public is not expected to be affected.
More hot temperatures along with light winds are expected to contribute to Friday’s air quality situation.
Some tips for air quality alert days:
* Conserve electricity
* Limit driving
* Avoid use of gasoline power lawn and garden equipment.
* Refuel cars and trucks after 6 p.m.
* Limit engine idling.
More dangerously hot temperatures will be possible across Alabama into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
