Code Orange air quality alert for Birmingham area today
Another Code Orange air quality alert will be in effect today (Friday) for the Birmingham metro area.
The Alabama Department of Environmental Management said ground-level ozone concentrations are expected to be high enough to possibly affect sensitive groups, which are children and those with respiratory conditions.
The general public is not expected to be affected.
Airnow, a partnership made up of NOAA, the EPA and other groups said a ridge of high pressure will continue to keep conditions hot and mostly dry across the metro area on Friday, though scattered showers or storms will remain possible.
Highs are expected to top out in the mid- to upper 90s, and winds are expected to be light.
Here is the forecast for Friday:
Hot temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend and into next week, with some areas possibly hitting the 100-degree mark on Monday.
