Coaching carousel: Another Class 6A high school football job now open
Make that a pair of high-profile head football coaching jobs now open in the city of Tuscaloosa.
Tuscaloosa City Schools (TCS) announced Thursday that Paul Bryant High School is looking for a head football coach along with Central-Tuscaloosa.
AL.com reported earlier this week that Rodney Bivens Jr. had stepped down at Central. On Thursday, TCS verified that Eldrick Hill was no longer in the role at Paul Bryant.
Hill has been head coach at Paul Bryant since 2014. In nine years, he amassed a 36-55 overall record. He led his team to the playoffs in 2016, 2017 and 2019. However, the Stampede has not been back to the postseason since.
This year’s team finished the season just 1-9. Paul Bryant is idle in Week 11. The Stampede’s only win in 2022 was a 23-18 victory over Brookwood on Oct. 7.
The team was outscored 483-157 this season.
Lydia Seabol Avant, director of public relations for the school system, confirmed that both the openings at Central and Paul Bryant have been posted.
“This is an opportunity for the Tuscaloosa City Schools to identify and recruit two of the best high school coaches in the region, people who are experts in their field, who communicate well and want to build powerhouse programs and make a real, positive impact on their athletes,” said Maurice Heard, coordinator of athletics for the Tuscaloosa City Schools.
Other current head coaching openings include Oak Mountain and Stanhope Elmore.
Paul Bryant and Central-Tuscaloosa both compete in Class 6A, Region 4. Central beat Paul Bryant 33-24 on Sept. 2.
