Class 7A No. 9 Hewitt-Trussville rolls past Chelsea

Ninth-ranked Hewitt Trussville rolled to 49-20 win over Chelsea on the road on Friday night to claim second place in Class 7A, Region 3.

The Huskies had lost two of their past three games – to No. 1 Thompson and last week to Spain Park – and finish the regular season at 7-3, 5-2 in region play.

Peyton Floyd threw for 233 yards and four touchdowns while leading the Huskies to the win. Floyd, who added a 5-yard touchdown run, had scoring strikes of 6, 20, 45 and 48 yards.

“Peyton played very well,” said Hewitt-Trussville coach Josh Floyd. “I was proud of him and our whole team for the way we bounced back tonight.”

Chelsea (2-8) trailed 21-6 when a Floyd pass intended for Donovan Price was batted down by a Hornet defensive back into the hands of Husky Jason Loving, who took the deflected ball 45 yards for a score.

Game ball: Sophomore running back Delvecchio Austin ran 7 times for 112 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown.

Moving up the ranks: Josh Floyd notched his 80th win at Hewitt-Trussville, passing Hal Riddle for second all-time on the career victory list as the head Husky. Jack Wood had 141 wins at Hewitt-Trussville.
