Class 7A No. 1 Thompson scores in every phase of game to maul Spain Park
Thompson scored in all three phases of the game, racking up 48 straight points on the way to a 55-14 win over host Spain Park.
The Class 7A top-ranked Warriors (3-0, 2-0) scored on two running touchdowns, four passing scores, an interception return and punt return TD against Spain Park (2-2, 0-2) in the Region 3 contest.
AJ Green opened the scoring with a 17-yard run with 9:17 left in the first quarter and quarterback Trent Seaborn threw the first of his two scoring passes, finding Deuce Oliver in the middle of the field for a 48-yard touchdown with 6:19 left.
Kaleb Harris cut in front of a Spain Park receiver at the Jaguars 9-yard line and sprinted to the end zone for a 21-0 lead with 45 seconds left in the quarter. Punter John McGuire aided in the score with a 54-yard punt that was downed on the Spain Park 3-yard line.
Oliver picked up his second score, returning a Spain Park punt 57 yards for a TD and a 28-point lead with 10:51 left in the second quarter.
The Warriors mounted a 99-yard drive on their next possession, started by quarterback Zach Sims and finished by quarterback Seaborn’s 1-yard TD pass to Kolby Hearn for a 34-0 advantage with 54 seconds left in the half.
Thompson started the third quarter drive with a 60-yard run by Green and Sims followed with a 19-yard pass to Colben Landrew for a 41-0 lead. The Warriors made it 48-0 on a 11-yard pass from Seaborn to Dalton Wills with 8:53 left in the third quarter.
Spain Park got on the board with a 54-yard pass from Brock Bradley to Jonathan Bibbs and Bradley found Andrew Thornton on a 24-yard scoring pass after Thompson fumbled the ensuing kickoff.
The Warriors ended the scoring when Michael Dujon ran 14 yards for a touchdown.
