Class 6A area softball champion forced to forfeit games, won’t host tournament
Fort Payne High School’s varsity softball program has been fined and placed on probation for playing an ineligible player in violation of the AHSAA Transfer Rule.
The forfeits will cost the Wildcats the ability to host the Class 6A, Area 14 tournament, which was scheduled to start Monday.

Among the forfeits was an area win over Gadsden City.
As a result, the final standings now show Southside finishing 3-1 in Area 14; Fort Payne was 2-2; and Gadsden City finished 1-3. Consequently, Southside High School will move to the No. 1 seed and host the tournament. Fort Payne falls to the No. 2 seed.
The AHSAA said Fort Payne self-reported the violation, which forces the Wildcats to forfeit all the games won in which the ineligible athlete participated in. The athlete will be assessed restitution.
