City of Auburn says changes coming to iconic Toomer’s Corner
The City of Auburn announced a new traffic pattern at the intersection of College and Magnolia Monday afternoon.
The goal is to allow pedestrians to cross in any direction while all vehicle traffic is stopped. The new traffic flow is set to begin Monday, July 7th.
According to the city of Auburn press release, the crossing pattern allows all vehicle traffic (including cars and bicycles) to stop at a red light. At the same time, pedestrians receive a walk signal that allows them to cross straight across the street or diagonally to the opposite corner.
Once that phase ends, vehicle traffic will resume as normal. Traffic will not be allowed to turn right on red to allow people to cross.
On a green light, fans will not be allowed to cross the street to prevent drivers from having to wait on pedestrians in the middle of the intersection.
