Church of the Highlands opens Alabaster campus
The Church of the Highlands, Alabama’s largest church, will open up its newest branch campus this weekend in Alabaster with the first worship services on Sunday.
“We love being in the Alabaster community,” said Pastor Chris Hodges, who founded the Church of the Highlands in 2001. “Because of the generosity of the amazing people at Church of the Highlands, we now have a permanent place to worship and serve the community.”
The Alabaster congregation of the Church of the Highlands started meeting on March 8, 2015 at Thompson Middle School in Alabaster and had been holdintg Sunday services there since.
The first services in the new $18 million building will be held on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 8 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., at 8495 Highway 119.
Construction was done without loans or debt, in line with church policy.
Pastor Lee Martinez is the Campus Pastor. Sermons will be livestreamed from the church’s main campus on Grants Mill Road in Irondale.
“We are extremely grateful for the many years we had working with the school,” said Associate Pastor Layne Schranz. “We were able to invest in making improvements to the school beyond our weekly rental and loved partnering with them to serve the Alabaster community.”
The building opens on Saturday with prayer at 9 a.m., open house for members and 10 a.m. outreach with Manna Ministries, distributing food and providing lunch for families in need.
The Church of the Highlands meets weekly in 22 locations throughout Alabama and two in Georgia.
