Christmas forecast looks rainy but warm for Alabama

The Christmas Day forecast for Alabama still looks like a wet one.

That’s according to the National Weather Service.

It’s not all bad news: The rain is still needed with the state in the midst of a drought. And NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is still not expecting any severe weather on Monday.

All of Alabama could see some rain from Sunday into Monday, but southwest Alabama could get the most. The five-day precipitation outlook from NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center shows that region could see in excess of 2 inches:

Days 1-5 QPF

Here is the precipitation outlook for the next five days. South Alabama could see 2 inches or more of rain, with north and central parts of the state getting less.Weather Prediction Center

The rest of the state could see up to a half-inch, according to the weather service.

Temperatures are expected to be on the warm side for Christmas Day. The weather service is forecasting highs to be in the 60s nearly statewide, with 70s expected in south Alabama.

The weather service said rain should move out of Alabama on Monday, and drier conditions are expected for the rest of the week.
