Chris Licht out as CNN chairman
Chris Licht is out as CNN chairman after leading the network for a little more than a year.
CNBC reported the embattled chief executive’s departure comes after uproar among CNN’s talent and staff, including a decision to host a town hall with former President Donald Trump. The controversy grew after a 15,000-word profile in The Atlantic that led Licht to apologize to staff for his comments in the article.
In its story, CNN said Licht’s “brief” tenure was “stained by a series of severe missteps” marked by “layoffs, historically low ratings and rock-bottom employee morale.”
“I met with Chris and he will be leaving CNN,” David Zaslav, the chief executive of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, told CNN on Wednesday morning.
CNN’s interim leadership team will be Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent and content development; Virginia Moseley, executive vice president of editorial; and Eric Sherling, executive vice president of U.S. programming. David Leavy, who was recently installed as chief operating officer, will oversee the company’s commercial activities.
