AL.com wants to hear your choice for the annual Athlete of the Year awards.
The AL.com staff has selected 11 finalists for the Female Athlete of the Year award, with fans being able to make their choices.
Athletes of the year from the Huntsville, Birmingham and Mobile areas have already been selected with eight other selections from across the state being added to the mix for overall athlete of the year.
Voting is open until Sunday. You can cast your votes for Male Athlete of the Year here.

Here are your choices for AL.com Female Athlete of the Year:
Ace Austin, Spring Garden
The two-time Miss Basketball starred yet again as a senior, averaging 26.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 4.2 steals to lead Spring Garden to a Class 1A state championship. She was also named Gatorade Player of the Year and ranks second in AHSAA history in career assists (1,429) and steals (863) with a 203-10 career record. She was also named Class 1A Player of the Year by AL.com in volleyball with 385 kills and 162 digs.
Samarian Franklin, Wenonah
AL.com’s Birmingham Female Athlete of the Year averaged 24.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game for Wenonah, becoming the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2.807 career points as a senior. She also ranks third in AHSAA history with 221 steals in a single season. A Miles College basketball signee, she also served as quarterback for the Wenonah’s flag football team, throwing for 5,424 yards and 48 touchdowns while running for 2,715 yards and 47 touchdowns on the ground.
Gerrett Griggs, Central-Phenix City
The Alabama softball signee was named Class 7A Player of the Year as a senior after batting .606 with 83 hits, nine doubles and six triples for the Red Devils. She posted a 1.439 OPS and went 73-for-76 for Central. She was also named AL.com’s first Miss Football as she led Central to a Class 6A-7A state championship and a No. 1 national ranking in flag football. She threw for 3,284 yards and 82 touchdowns while running for 471 yards and 13 touchdowns as quarterback. Griggs was also a starter for a Red Devils basketball team that advanced to the Class 7A state semifinals.
Ambrey Taylor, Curry
Named Miss Softball for the 2025 season, Taylor was also named Class 4A Player of the Year and honored on the Super All-State team as a senior. The Crimson Tide signee batted .597 with a 1.267 slugging percentage for Curry with 34 doubles, 26 home runs and 100 RBIs. She is the AHSAA’s all-time leader in career doubles.
Janie Ford, St. Paul’s
AL.com’s pick for Mobile Female Athlete of the Year, she finished with four individual wins at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Class 7A outdoor state championships. Along with a 100-meter hurdles victory (14.13), the Vanderbilt signee also set state records in the long jump (20 feet, 4 ½ inches), 300-meter hurdles (41.43 seconds), and the 200 (23.34). She also broke her own heptathlon record by scoring 5,311 points.
Lani Smallwood, Albertville
The Class 7A Player of the Year in girls basketball, Smallwood averaged 23 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists for an Albertville team that advanced to the Northeast Regional final. The Mississippi State commit also added 111 steals and surpassed 2,000 career points as a junior.
Anna Claire Free, G.W. Long
The Class 2A Player of the Year in softball batted .580 with a 1.750 OPS and 70 RBIs for G.W. Long, hitting 13 home runs and going 43-for-43 on stolen base attempts. In the circle, she posted a 2.42 ERA with 285 strikeouts across 171 innings of work. An outside hitter on the G.W. Long volleyball team, she finished with 480 kills, 225 digs, 5 aces and 44 blocks in 124 matches played to earn first team all-state honors.
Kennedy Vaughn, Bob Jones
Vaughn was named AL.com’s Huntsville Female Athlete of the Year and state Gatorade Player of the Year after helping lead Bob Jones to a Class 7A runner-up finish and a 52-10 record as a senior. The UAB signee finished with 714 kills, 354 digs, 65 aces and 56 blocks for the Patriots, also claiming American Volleyball Coaches Association second team All-American honors.
Gabby Barrera, Montgomery Academy
Barrera finished her high school career with a third straight championship victory to claim the girls No. 1 tennis singles state championship in Class 7A. The Ball State tennis signee also went 30-0 as a senior with the Eagles.
Lily Henry, Pleasant Valley
The Class 2A Player of the Year in volleyball finished with 458 kills, 479 digs and 52 blocks for a Pleasant Valley squad that finished as the Class 2A state champion for the second season in a row. She batted .500 with a 1.323 OPS in softball for the Raiders with 81 hits, 58 RBIs and 17 doubles as Pleasant Valley was ranked No. 1 in Class 2A throughout the season.
Shila Marks, Lauderdale County
Marks was honored on the Super All-State girls basketball team after helping lead Lauderdale County to a Class 3A state championship as a senior. She averaged 19.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists and finished with over 2,600 points. A Shelton State basketball signee, she also claimed first team all-state honors in softball for Class 3A after batting .515 with a 1.615 OPS, 12 home runs and going 41-for-43 on stolen base attempts.
