Chilly temperatures in store tonight for Alabama; how cold will it get?
Alabama woke up to cool — maybe even chilly — temperatures for early May thanks to the passage of a cold front overnight.
Many spots had temperatures in the low 50s overnight, according to data from the National Weather Service.
One spot, Haleyville, dipped into the upper 40s.
And tonight could be even a few degrees colder.
Here are some of the lowest temperatures overnight (not official lows) from the weather service:
- Alexander City: 52 degrees
- Anniston: 55 degrees
- Auburn: 52 degrees
- Birmingham: 51 degrees
- Decatur: 51 degrees
- Dothan: 58 degrees
- Eufaula: 55 degrees
- Evergreen: 53 degrees
- Gadsden: 53 degrees
- Greenville: 52 degrees
- Haleyville: 47 degrees
- Huntsville: 51 degrees
- Mobile: 56 degrees
- Montgomery: 53 degrees
- Muscle Shoals: 51 degrees
- Ozark: 57 degrees
- Sylacauga: 55 degrees
- Talladega: 56 degrees
- Troy: 55 degrees
- Tuscaloosa: 51 degrees
Sunday’s daytime temperatures are expected to be cooler than the past week for much of the state.
Highs today are forecast to top out in the upper 60s in north and north-central Alabama. South Alabama will have highs in the mid-70s to possibly 80 degrees near the coast (see the forecast for today at the top of this post).
Tonight will be cool — and maybe a degree or two colder than this morning, according to weather service forecasts.
Lows tonight could fall into the upper 40s in north and much of central Alabama. South Alabama will be cooler, too, with lows expected to hit the low 50s overnight.

After a very chilly start, Monday’s daytime temperatures will be a bit warmer than today, with highs expected to reach the 70s in north and central Alabama and the upper 70s to low 80s in southern Alabama.

Although a few showers can’t be ruled out today the next few days are expected to be mostly dry for much of Alabama, according to weather service forecasts.
The next decent chance for rain arrives statewide on Wednesday — and then rain chances could hang around through the end of the work week.
There’s a bit of good news, however. No severe weather is in the forecast — at least so far — for Alabama in the upcoming week, according to the Storm Prediction Center.
