An early-morning crash in Blount County left a child dead.

The single-vehicle wreck happened about 6:20 a.m. on Highway 79 at Center Springs Road, said Sheriff Mark Moon. That location is in the Trafford area.

The child was in kindergarten, but an exact age has not yet been released, Moon said. It was not clear if the mother was injured, he said.

No additional details were immediately available.

The crash is under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
