Chick-fil-A opening 2 story drive-through with food delivered via chutes, new walk-up locations

Chick-fil-A has announced two new restaurant concepts, including a two-story building in Atlanta where food travels via an overhead conveyor and is delivered via chutes.

In a release, the mega-popular chicken chain said the two-story drive-through concept will be in the Atlanta metro area. Chick-fil-A is also opening a new drive-through concept restaurant in New York City. Both restaurants are set to open in 2024.

The new locations are designed to make ordering and receiving your food quicker and easier,  especially due to the growing use of mobile ordering, the company said.

“Digital orders make up more than half of total sales in some markets – and growing – so we know our customers have an appetite for convenience,” said Khalilah Cooper, executive director, restaurant design.  “Understanding this desire for convenience, the locations for these tests were intentionally selected with the customers in mind, giving them more control over their desired experience and cutting down wait-time, while continuing to provide genuine hospitality and care to every guest.”

At the future Atlanta location, guests will be able to place their order with a Chick-fil-A employee or use four lanes dedicated to orders placed via the Chick-fil-A app. The food will travel from the building’s expanded kitchen via conveyor belts and chutes before being delivered by an employee.

The walk-up restaurant is designed for urban areas with heavy foot traffic, the company said. Guests will place an order ahead of time via the app and then have it given to them when they arrive.
