Cheese recalled over listeria concerns
Cheese producer Sargento has voluntarily recalled some of its products that were either supplied by or packaged on the same lines as Rizo-Lopez Foods, Inc., the dairy brand that has issued a massive wave of recalls due to potential Listeria contamination.
After Rizo-Lopez issued a recall of its Cotija cheese in February, Sargento investigated the situation and determined that the recall impacted a limited amount of the products and ingredients the company supplies to food service businesses, such as restaurants.
In a press release, Sargento said it terminated its relationship with Rizo-Lopez Foods, Inc. and immediately notified its affected business customers. Sargento says the recall does not affect its line of individually packed cheeses sold in grocery stores.
Rizo-López Foods recently recalled a line of its dairy products because they are potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled dairy products include cheese, yogurt, and sour cream sold under the brand names Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas, and 365 Whole Foods Market.
