The Huntsville Football Player of the Week earned 57 percent of the 34,864 votes cast after a dominant performance in Week 7.

Huntsville’s Marlin Jones Jr. got 19,754 votes to run away with the honors. Jones was a workhorse for the Panthers in a 36-7 win over Albertville. The 5-foot-10, 160-pound junior carried the ball 30 times for 169 yards and scored four touchdowns in the win.

Jones is the first player from Huntsville High to take top honors in this season’s poll.

North Jackson quarterback Jonathan Linderman finished second in the balloting after running for 119 yards and two TDs, throwing for 165 yards and another touchdown and converting a 2-point play in the Chiefs’ 36-20 win at New Hope.

Randolph quarterback William Mitchell was third in the voting after throwing three touchdown passes for the Raiders in a 46-26 win over Madison County.

Voting for Huntsville Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.

In Week 7, more than 57,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
