The Huntsville Player of the Week led his team to a landslide victory and then picked up a runaway win the Week 5 balloting for top performance on the field.

Madison Academy quarterback Jake Poldiak threw for four touchdowns in the Mustangs 62-13 Class 3A, Region 7 win at Danville. Voters gave Poldiak 60 percent of the ballots cast in this week’s poll. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound senior picked up 1,306 votes.

Poldiak has completed 76 percent of his passes in leading Madison Academy to a 4-0 start and a No. 4 rating in the Alabama Sports Writers Association football poll. The QB has thrown for 532 yards, eight touchdowns and has been intercepted twice.

Senior running back Easton Smith scored four touchdowns in West Limestone’s 55-8 win over East Lawrence. Smith finished second in the week’s polling.

Tyren Washington of Bob Jones, who ran for 226 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-35 win over Huntsville, finished third in the Week 5 balloting.

Voting for Huntsville Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.

In Week 5, more than 74,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
