Check out the Week 2 Huntsville Football Player of the Week winner

Quarterback Dax Varnadore dominated the voting in Week 2 of the Huntsville much as he did in Fort Payne’s 54-26 win over Etowah.

The 6-foot, 195-pound junior received 89 percent of the 2,319 votes cast in this week’s balloting, receiving 2,067 votes.

Varnadore completed 16-of-26 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns in the Wildcats’ win.

Class 6A Fort Payne will open Region 8 play at home tonight against Mae Jemison.

Madison Academy running back Ken Cherry was second in the Huntsville voting after picking up 231 yards on the ground with three touchdowns on 15 carries in a 49-20 win over Randolph. Cherry also caught a TD pass.

Athens quarterback Brogan Gross was third in the voting after tossing five touchdown passes in a 35-28 win over Bob Jones. Gross threw for 259 yards for the Golden Eagles.

Voting for Huntsville Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.

In Week 2, more than 91,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
