Charles Barkley: Democrats may ‘lose my support forever’ if they don’t do this in 2028
Charles Barkley warned he will never vote for a Democrat again unless the party nominates one of two candidates for president in 2028.
“If the Democrats don’t get Josh Shapiro – the governor of Pennsylvania – or Wes Moore – the governor of Maryland – if they’re not the leader or the team up for the Democratic Party, I would not even consider voting for anybody else other than one of those two,” the former Auburn star and NBA Hall of Famer said last week on the “SI Media With Jimmy Traina” podcast.
“I think Josh Shapiro is amazing,” Barkley said. “I think Wes Moore is amazing. If the Democratic Party does not pick one of those two they gonna lose my support forever, as an independent.”
The Leeds native said he’s a “hard no” on prospective candidate Stephen A. Smith, host of ESPN’s “First Take” who has become outspoken of the Democratic Party.
“Calm down, Stephen A … I’m like, ‘yo, man. Come on, man, stop it,‘” Barkley said.
Smith’s potential candidacy, Barkley said, “happened to start out as a joke, and he started taking it serious.
“Come on, man, just … All I would say is, ‘knock it off,‘” Barkley said.
Asked by Traina if that means he’s a “no” on casting a ballot for Smith, Barkley said, “hard ‘no,’ hard ‘no.’”
The former hoops star and political independent also shut down any possibility of voting for President Donald Trump should he run for a third term — which Trump is reportedly floating even though the Constitution is clear that he can’t serve another term.
“I’m not ever gonna vote for Trump and he’s just not my cup of tea,” Barkley said, “and obviously he can’t run again.”
