Charges dropped against former Alabama WR, reinstated by Oregon
Traeshon Holden has been reinstated to the Oregon football team.
The former Alabama wide receiver had three charges against him dropped by the Lane County District Attorney’s office on Friday, nine days after Holden was arrested on accusations of felony unlawful use of a weapon and coercion and misdemeanor menacing.
Eugene police decided not to move forward with the case after reviewing body camera footage. Subsequent interviews also provided clarity on the Feb. 15 incident.
“Following the release of new information from the Lane County District Attorney’s office, student-athlete Traeshon Holden has been reinstated to the Oregon football team,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said in a statement. “We will always take allegations of this nature very seriously. However, when new information is provided by authorities, such as in this instance, disciplinary action will be reevaluated and adjusted, when appropriate.”
Per The Oregonian/OregonLive, a Lane County district attorney said Holden made “legitimate attempts to de-escalate” a fight with his girlfriend, which based on tthe initial investigation, had led to Holden’s arrest.
“I’m happy to have been exonerated, and I’m looking forward to a great season with the Ducks,” Holden said in a statement provided by his lawyer, Jacob Houze, to The Oregonian/OregonLive.
Holden, formerly a four-star in the 2020 recruiting cycle from Florida, appeared in 30 games for the Tide. He scored seven touchdowns in his career, including six this past season. Holden announced his transfer to the Ducks in December.
