The Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Commission today is expected to review the updated plans for the Loxley plant Ecovery, which had its ongoing $19.6 million expansion slowed by community complaints.

Ecovery, a metal processing and recycling plant, made changes for the better, according to company leadership, after residents objected.

“The re-zoning sparked a dialogue that led to some positive changes,” Brock Norris, president and chief operating officer of Ecovery, said.

Ecovery launched its expansion at the same time as the aluminum recycling company Novelis, arrives in Baldwin County. But those plans came to a halt last month, when the planning and zoning commission tabled their review of the site plan for a new facility that would be used for sorting copper, aluminum and other metals.

The commission decided to table approval after residents near the plant complained about persistent noise and other environmental concerns.
