CFP executives expected to tweak model for 2025 playoff
CFP executives are expected to discuss and potentially change the seeding procedure for the 2025 season.
Heather Dinich of ESPN, citing sources, reports college football leaders could vote on a straight seeding model, where the selection committee’s top four teams would earn the top four seeds.
In the current 12-team format, the top four seeds go to the best conference champs. A straight seeding model ranks the teams by the committee’s rankings.
Ross Dellenger of Yahoo is reporting, however, under the new model, the financial impact won’t change, meaning the four conference champions will still receive $8 million even if those teams aren’t ranked among the top 4.
