Central Regional boys: Undefeated Valley downs Central-Clay County
Valley is two wins away from a perfect season.
Not to mention a Class 5A state title.
The Rams improved to 31-0 on Thursday morning, outscoring Central-Clay County 28-15 in the first half and cruising to a 61-36 win in the finals of the Central Regional at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham.
Valley will play Scottsboro in the state semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the BJCC Legacy Arena. The Rams are the only undefeated team remaining in the state.
On Thursday, they shot 49 percent from the field (24-of-49) and 78.6 percent from the free throw line (11-of-14) and outrebounded Central 35-20. The Rams also had a 28-12 advantage in points off turnovers.
Denali Dooley led a balanced Valley attack with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting. He also contributed nine rebounds. Cam’ron Dooley added 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Brandon Thomas had nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals and Jamarious Martin and Jay Harper each scored eight points.
Troy Buchanan led Central with 16 points.
