Center Point working to improve student safety with new school zone sidewalks

Students at Erwin Middle School may soon have new sidewalks that make it safer for them to get to class. That’s good news to residents like Harmony Powell who worries about traffic where the children walk.

“There are no sidewalks in important places in Center Point for instance near the schools,” Powell wrote in a recent letter to AL.com. “This causes concern as many children are walking to and from school every day. This is highly upsetting because it is dangerous for kids to walk so closely to the road, especially with no protection.”
