CDC no longer printing COVID vaccination cards: What should you do with your old card?
So long, COVID vaccine cards.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is no longer printing or distributing cards showing a person’s history of COVID-19 vaccinations. People receiving the shots will still receive fact sheets with information about the vaccine, the New York Times reported.
“CDC no longer distributes the white CDC COVID-19 Vaccination cards,” the agency’s website noted.
The cards, given after a person’s vaccination, included the manufacturer of the vaccine, the dose number and the date and location each shot was administered. At the height of the COVID pandemic, the cards were used as proof of vaccinations for travel, social gatherings and entry for things like bars and restaurants.
The CDC issued 980 million of the cards between 2020 and May 2023, the AP reported.
According to the Times, people do not need to bring their old paper cards with them if they are receiving a new COVID vaccine but it’s recommended patients keep all vaccination records – including the little cards – when possible, to give to healthcare providers.
People can receive a digital or paper copy of their full vaccination records, including COVID-19, by contacting their state health department’s immunization information system. That data is not stored by the CDC.
