Casey White’s lawyers seek delay in murder trial relating to Vicky White’s death
Attorneys for accused murderer Casey Cole White have asked for his felony murder trial relating to last year’s escape from Lauderdale County Jail to be postponed.
White’s attorneys filed a motion Wednesday before Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Benjamin Graves.

White’s team of attorneys, led by Huntsville’s Mark McDaniel, said there will not be adequate time to prepare for the felony murder trial scheduled for April 23 while also preparing for White’s capital murder trial scheduled for June 12.
The felony murder charge resulted from the death of Vicky White, the corrections officer at the jail who helped Casey White escape last April, according to the sheriff’s department. Vicky White, no relation to Casey White, took her own life as police in Indiana moved in to capture them after an 11-day manhunt. Casey White was charged with Vicky White’s murder because her death took place in the commission of a felony, Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said in announcing the indictment last July.
Casey White, who is already serving a 75-year prison sentence resulting from 2015 crime spree in Limestone County, has also been charged with capital murder in connection with the death of Connie Ridgeway of Rogersville in 2015.
McDaniel and his team of attorneys took over representation for White in May 2022.
The motion said the defense attorneys have spent six months preparing for the capital murder trial, which they believed would be tried before the felony murder trial. Defense attorneys said they will be ready for the capital murder trial in June.
Judge Graves, who is presiding over both cases, set the dates for the April felony murder trial and the June capital murder trial on Dec. 20.
A scheduling conference before the judge in the felony murder case is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
