Case of man shot dead after forcing his way into Mobile apartment heads to grand jury, police say
A Mobile grand jury will decide whether a man who was found fatally shot Saturday after forcing his way into an apartment building was killed in self-defense, police said Monday.
The alleged shooter, who has not been publicly identified, was questioned by investigators.
A police spokesman said the shooter has not been arrested as of Monday afternoon.
The case will be heard by a grand jury to determine whether the homicide warrants a murder charge or if the shooter acted in self-defense.
Jermaine Thomas, 25, was found shot to death inside a unit of the Stone Ridge Apartments at 1200 Somerby Dr. around 10:58 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Officers learned Thomas forced his way into the apartment to confront someone when a second person inside the unit fatally shot him.
