Carraway tower coming down

The tallest tower at the abandoned Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Norwood is coming down.

A trackhoe has been making a dramatic destruction of the tower as demolition continues this week on the campus of the former hospital, making way for a new mixed-use development that will be called The Star at Uptown.

Most of the current demolition is focused on the tower at the corner of 25th St. North and Sixth Avenue North, part of the former Ambulatory Care Center of the abandoned hospital.

Demolition started a year ago, with the first building being torn down near the corner of 15th Avenue North on Carraway Boulevard three blocks north of Top Golf.

Corporate Realty plans to turn the former hospital site into a multi-use development complete with office, retail, entertainment, hotel and residential space, and an amphitheater.
