Carolina QB Bryce Young’s jersey unravels in Philadelphia linebacker’s hand
On the move in their upset bid against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Carolina Panthers had just caught a break: Quarterback Bryce Young’s fourth-and-2 pass from the Philadelphia 11-yard line had been tipped at the line of scrimmage, but the football still found its way into the hands of wide receiver Adam Thielen for a 6-yard gain.
On the next play, Young had to scramble. He made the right end, where he put a juke on linebacker Nakobe Dean. Dean could get only a hand on the tail of Young’s No. 9 jersey. As the quarterback’s shirt unraveled in the linebacker’s hand, Young resistance-ran for 3 more yards before being brought down at the Eagles 1-yard line.
Two snaps later, Carolina running back Chuba Hubbard plunged in for a touchdown to complete a 12-play, 58-yard drive as the Panthers took a 16-14 lead with 2:49 left in the third quarter.
A former Alabama All-American, Young made his sixth consecutive start since returning from a five-game benching. Since Young’s return to the lineup, the Panthers have picked up two of their season total of three victories and lost their previous two games to division leaders by three points – 30-27 to the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 24 and 26-23 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Dec. 1.
The Eagles are Carolina’s third straight division-leading opponent.
