Capital murder suspect surrenders in Hoover woman’s Birmingham shooting death
The suspect in the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old Hoover woman in Birmingham is in custody.
Demetrious Dewayne Kidd, 41, is charged with capital murder in the killing of Nikita Nicole Walker.
Kidd surrendered to police on Friday, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail 2:50 a.m. Saturday and remains held without bond.
Authorities said the charge is a capital crime because robbery was involved.
The shooting happened about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at a home in the 700 block of New Hill Court.
Officers responded to the scene and found Walker unresponsive on a set of exterior stairs outside the home. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her dead on the scene.

Investigators said Walker was at a friend’s house when the suspect got into an argument with her. Kidd is the boyfriend or acquaintance of the victim’s friend.
“He was here causing a disturbance with everybody,’’ Fitzgerald said. “Somehow he and the victim got into an argument, and he shot the victim.”
“He did target the victim,’’ he said.
Fitzgerald said Kidd took items belonging to Walker before fleeing.
Family told police Walker was five months pregnant at the time of her death, but Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said an autopsy showed no signs of pregnancy.
