Can Jeremiah Cobb make a positive leap in Auburn’s offense in 2025?
As AL.com continues to highlight key players and coaches ahead of Auburn football’s 2025 season, junior running back Jerimiah Cobb is in for a pivotal season with the Tigers.
With 260 career rushing yards and two touchdowns through his first two seasons, Cobb is set to get more carries out the backfield behind probable starter Damari Alston.
“I see myself being a guy that is going to make plays this year and I’m going to do that the best way I can,” Cobb said following Auburn’s A-Day spring practice.
Cobb was used a lot on special teams last season as a returner, ranking third in the SEC averaging 23.6 return yards.
With the young depth the Tigers added on offense, Cobb’s role as return specialist can be passed to a freshman or sophomore this fall.
During the spring period, Cobb was primarily taking snaps with the second team and has gotten high praise for his peers on the improvements they’ve seen in his game.
“Jeremiah Cobb has been putting in the work,” Alston said following A-Day. “We are going to be running the table this year for our offense.”
The Tigers running back room is loaded and competitive, but injuries have slowed down their development.
Tigers brought in former UConn running back Durell Robinson in the transfer portal. However, he didn’t participate in the spring due to a leg injury. Not to mention, freshman Alvin Henderson is also in the rotation.
“I sure wish he were out there — we feel very good about Jeremiah and very good about Damari, for sure,” Auburn coach Hugh Freeze said.
With all the depth the Tigers have at that position, Cobb is still in a good spot to still make plays this fall.
Auburn has successfully managed an elite running back duo in the past seeing Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown share the backfield back in 2004.
In his college debut, Cobb sprinted for a 42-yard touchdown run against UMass. Utilizing his natural skillset with the tactics he learned at special teams, Cobb has the potential to be a solid piece in the Tigers backfield.
