Cam Newton explains viral video of him taunting New Orleans heckler with crude gesture

Cam Newton says he’s telling his “narrative,” days after a video of the former Carolina quarterback went viral.

In the video, Newton – the Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn – appears to heckle a teenage fan with a rude gesture. Newton was in New Orleans for Deestroying’s “1ON1″ tour.

“Too many times, we’ve seen people — hecklers, fans, whatever — give off an energy not knowing they may get what they’re asking for,” Newton said in a video message he tweeted Tuesday. “As a fan, you are free to say whatever you want to say. My issue is when you play the victim. You started this and the energy that you are giving, I just matched it.”

The original video clip went viral, creating headlines. On Tuesday, Newton included footage his videographer took, which shows the teenager talking trash to Newton about former New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees and the Saints having Newton’s number. The teen asked Newton who his “daddy” is?

“If that child is bold enough to talk to an adult, then that child should also take what that adult is giving him,” Newton said.

In the videographer’s longer version of the video, Newton explains the same message to the kids in attendance of the event.

“You can’t talk (expletive) to me, bro, when I give you the energy you want,” he explained to the kid. “I’m giving you the platform to speak on my platform. Then, I give you the energy.

“You talk (expletive) to me all the way over there,” he added, pointing to across the field. “When I match your energy, I give you he energy you gave me. It’s almost like humble yourself.”

Due to the nature of the crude gesture, the video was not included in this post, but the video can be found on Twitter.”
