Caitlin Clark close to 8-figure Nike shoe deal, per report

Caitlin Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in this week’s WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, is closing in on an eight-figure endorsement deal with Nike, The Athletic is reporting.

The report, citing sources, states Clark is expected to receive a signature Nike shoe, too. Those same sources said Under Armour and Adidas also made offers.

It’s been a day for the former Iowa star. Earlier Wednesday, an Indiana reporter took to social media to apologize for what many are calling a cringeworthy moment during the introductory press conference.

During the news conference, the former Iowa star discussed the impact a new television deal could have around the league. Clark outlined her goal of helping the Indiana Fever end a seven-year playoff drought, talked about being “terrified” of her Saturday Night Live appearance, even teased Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton about attending her rival school, Iowa State.

Clark’s earlier deal with Nike ended after the conclusion of the recently finished college basketball season.

Clark has helped bring millions of fans to the women’s game with her signature shots from the midcourt logo and passing ability. The NCAA’s all-time scoring leader was a big reason why a record 18.9 million viewers tuned in to the national championship game, which Iowa lost to unbeaten South Carolina. The Hawkeyes were also the national runners-up to LSU a year earlier.
