Burst coil floods North Alabama middle school, repairs may top $1 million
Decatur City Schools on Tuesday said officials are assessing damage from a burst pipe at Decatur Middle School.
Workers were dispatched to the school after a coil broke on a rooftop HVAC unit Monday night, causing flooding inside the school.
“We have a maintenance crew at the school to make repairs to the pipe and clean up any water damage,” the system stated in a social media post.
Deputy Superintendent Dwight Satterfield told WAFF it could cost more than a million dollars to repair the damage. Students will be conducting virtual classes until further notice.
