Burglary suspect nabbed after police chase on Alabama lake; deputies used borrowed jet skis in pursuit

A burglary suspect is in custody after a police chase – on an east Alabama lake.

Cherokee County sheriff’s deputies and investigators last week were dispatched to a report of a burglary.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver said they quickly developed 47-year-old Emanuel Heath Kiser as a suspect and went to his home where they retrieved the stolen goods.

Authorities obtained several warrants for Kiser and went back to his home the following day to try to arrest him.

While they were there, someone called 911 and told them a man matching Kiser’s description was attempting to hide in their yard.

When law enforcement officers arrived, Shaver said, Kiser stole a boat and took off across the lake.

Community members then offered jet skis to the investigators, which they used to cross the lake. A foot chase followed, and Kiser was captured.

He is charged with first-degree theft of property, first-degree criminal mischief and attempting to elude.

“I would like to thank the caring individuals that helped investigators apprehend Kiser,’’ Shaver said. “Our citizens are the reason why Cherokee County is one of the best counties to live in.”
