Burglary suspect dies after Mobile police use Taser to subdue him

A burglary suspect died Sunday after Mobile police twice used a Taser in an attempt to subdue him, police said.

Jawan Dallas, 36, of Theodore, died after police said he experienced a medical emergency after officers used a Taser to arrest him.

Police were responding to a residential burglary in progress on Carol Plantation Road in the Plantation Mobile Home Park. Police said officers encountered two males at the scene and while trying to identify one of the males, he attempted to flee. During a struggle, an officer used his Taser to subdue Dallas, but it did not have any affect.

Police said Dallas attempted to grab the Taser from the officer. After a brief struggle over the weapon, the officer regained control and again tased the suspect.

Police said medical personnel were called to the scene to evaluate Dallas’ condition. Police said he was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Police said they are awaiting several reports to assist with determining the cause of death.
